1996–2005           Vitória

David arrived in Vitória at the age of 9 and started playing as a Defensive midfielder, almost leaving the club for his poor performances in that position. However, he was moved to central defence and adapted well.He made his debut in 2005 and made a brilliant performance in the 2-2 match against Santa Cruz for the 2006 Copa do Brasil. After the promotion of Vitória in the 2006 Campeonato Brasileiro Série C, in which David was the best player, he was loaned to Benfica in january.
